In collecting the images found on this website, we conducted research by referencing several books about Affandi that we own and have encountered. In some of these books, we found paintings that we suspect to be forgeries. Some books mix authentic Affandi works with fake ones, while unfortunately, certain books contain only forged paintings.
This situation has made us particularly cautious when seeking accurate data, as it can be very confusing for those who are unfamiliar with Affandi’s work. We encourage this same level of caution for anyone who wants to learn more about Affandi.
For some people, it may be very difficult to distinguish between an authentic Affandi painting and a fake one. However, for those who are more familiar with or have studied Affandi’s work in depth, there are visible differences that can be identified — such as composition, technique, and color choices used in the paintings.
Beyond literature, unfortunately, there are also individuals who forge certificates, which further complicates the situation. A certificate alone cannot always guarantee the authenticity of a work.
